How to Recover Your Instagram Account

July 28, 2026 · 4 phút đọc

"Recovering" an Instagram account means different things depending on what actually happened to it. The fix is different if you deactivated it yourself, requested deletion, or simply got locked out - so start by figuring out which situation you're actually in.

If you deactivated your account

This is the easiest case. A deactivated account isn't gone - it's just hidden. Log back in with your username and password, from the app or the website, and everything reappears immediately. There's no separate "recover" button to look for and no waiting period. See our guide on deactivating Instagram temporarily for how deactivation works in the first place.

If you requested deletion less than 30 days ago

Instagram holds a deleted account for 30 days before erasing it for good. During that window, logging back in cancels the deletion automatically and restores your profile, photos, followers, and messages exactly as they were. No support ticket or recovery form needed - just sign in like normal. Once the 30 days pass, though, the account is deleted permanently and this option disappears entirely. Read what happens after deleting Instagram for the full timeline.

If you're locked out - forgotten password or lost 2FA device

If you can't log in at all - wrong password, a lost phone number, or a missing two-factor app - that isn't something a guide like this one can fix directly. It requires Instagram's own official account-recovery flow, which verifies your identity and resets access on its end. Our notes on accessing an account without a saved password and on what to do when Instagram won't send a verification code both walk through that process.

What this site can't do

Two situations are entirely out of scope here, and we'd rather be upfront about that than promise something we can't deliver:

  • An account deleted more than 30 days ago. Once that window closes, Instagram erases the account permanently. There is no recovery path after that - not from us, and not from anyone else.
  • A hacked or impersonated account. If someone else has taken over your account, that's a security issue only Instagram can resolve through its own verification process, not something a third-party guide can perform.

In both cases, only Instagram - never this site or any outside tool - can actually make the change.
