How to Delete Instagram Without a Password

These open Instagram directly in a new tab. You'll need to be logged in.

You can't delete Instagram without logging in

There is no official way to delete an Instagram account without signing in first - not through this site, not through a third-party tool, and not through a support request that skips verification. Instagram requires you to be logged in before it will process a deletion. If you don't remember your password, the real task is to regain access to your account, then delete it.

Reset your password with your email, phone, or username

On the Instagram login screen, tap Forgot password? Instagram will ask for the email address, phone number, or username connected to the account and send a reset link or code. You can typically choose to:

  • Get a login link or code by email
  • Get a login link or code by SMS
  • Reset your password using your username, if it's still linked to a working contact method

Open the link or enter the code, set a new password, and log in. If the code never shows up, see our guide on Instagram not sending a verification code.

Lost access to the email or phone on file

If you no longer have access to that email address or phone number, the standard reset won't reach you. On the "Trouble logging in?" screen, look for a Need more help? option. Instagram will ask for details it can use to confirm you're the account owner, such as the username, the original email or phone used to sign up, or a device you've previously logged in from. Our full guide on how to recover an Instagram account walks through this in more detail.

If Instagram still can't verify it's you

For some accounts, Instagram's recovery flow asks for a short video selfie so its systems can match it against photos already on the account, or asks you to fill in whatever account details you can remember. This can take a few days, and there's no way to speed it up by contacting anyone outside Instagram - no email, app, or support line can override its identity checks.

Using a trusted device instead

If you're still logged in on another phone, tablet, or browser - or a friend or family member has access to one where you are - you can change your password from within the app on that device instead of starting recovery from scratch. Open Settings and update your password or contact details there.

Once you're back in, delete your account

Once you can log in again, follow our full walkthrough for how to delete your Instagram account, or see how to deactivate it temporarily if you're not ready for something permanent. One last note: this site is independent and not affiliated with Meta or Instagram. We can't reset a password, bypass two-factor authentication, or access anyone's account on your behalf - account recovery only happens through Instagram's own tools.
