How to Delete an Instagram Business or Professional Account

Deleting a business or creator Instagram account uses the same basic process as a personal account, but the business tools layered on top mean there are a few things worth checking first.

Check for active ads first

If you are currently running any Instagram or Facebook ads through this account, pause or end them before deleting - an active ad campaign tied to a deleted account can continue billing or behave unpredictably until it is properly stopped in Meta Ads Manager.

Unlink connected Pages and Meta Business Suite

A business account is often linked to a Facebook Page and managed through Meta Business Suite. Go to your account's Settings, then Linked Accounts (or the equivalent section in Meta Business Suite), and remove the connection if you plan to keep the Facebook Page itself active independently.

Consider switching to a personal account instead

If you want to step back from the business tools (analytics, ads, contact buttons) but keep the account and its followers, you can switch back to a personal account from Settings > Account type and tools instead of deleting anything. This keeps your content and audience intact while removing the business-specific features.

The deletion steps themselves

  • Log into instagram.com in a browser (not the app)
  • Go to Edit profile, then scroll to Delete your account
  • Choose Permanently delete my account
  • Select a reason and confirm with your password

What happens to your ads data and insights

Once the 30-day grace period ends and the account is permanently deleted, its historical insights, saved audiences, and post-level analytics are no longer accessible anywhere, including in Meta Business Suite. Export any reports you need before that window closes.

Not ready to fully delete?

If you are unsure, deactivating temporarily keeps everything - followers, posts, ad history - fully intact and reversible. Compare the two options in our deactivate vs. delete guide.
