How to Delete Instagram Without a Password

Instagram doesn’t let you delete an account without signing in first — deletion is a self-service action buried inside account settings, not something support can trigger for you remotely. The good news: you almost never need your old password, just a working path back into the account.

Why Instagram requires sign-in access

Deletion sits behind a login wall for a simple reason: it’s irreversible after 30 days, so Instagram wants proof that the person requesting it actually controls the account. That means the real task usually isn’t “delete without a password” — it’s “regain access,” after which deletion itself takes two minutes.

Resetting access with your email or phone number

  1. On the login screen, tap Forgot password?
  2. Enter the username, email, or phone number tied to the account.
  3. Choose whether to receive a reset link by email or a code by SMS.
  4. Follow the link or enter the code, then set a new password.
  5. Log in with the new password, then follow our standard deletion steps.

What if you can’t access the email or phone number either?

Instagram has a longer-form account recovery request for this exact situation:

  1. On the login screen, select Need more help? or Get help logging in.
  2. Choose the option to submit a support request without email or phone access.
  3. Enter any username, name, or details you remember about the account.
  4. Instagram may ask for a photo of a government ID to verify identity — this is a standard anti-takeover safeguard, not something unique to deletion requests.
  5. Watch the email address you provided in the form for a follow-up, which can take anywhere from a day to a couple of weeks.

Once you’re back in

As soon as you can log in successfully, treat it like any normal deletion: go to Settings → Accounts Center → Personal details → Account ownership and control → Deactivation or deletion, and choose Delete account.
