How to Delete Instagram Without the App (Using Any Browser)

July 6, 2026 · 4 min read

Ready to take action?

These open Instagram directly in a new tab. You'll need to be logged in.

You do not need the Instagram app installed to delete your account - in fact, permanent deletion is only available through a browser, whether that is on your phone, a laptop, or a shared computer.

What you need

  • Any modern browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge)
  • Your Instagram username and password
  • A few minutes, since Instagram asks you to re-enter your password to confirm

Step-by-step

  • Go to instagram.com and log in
  • Open your profile and select Edit profile
  • Scroll to the bottom and select Delete your account
  • Choose Permanently delete my account (or Temporarily deactivate my account if you just want a break)
  • Pick a reason from the dropdown, then confirm with your password

Forgot your password?

You will need to be logged in to reach this page, so if you cannot remember your password, use Instagram's Forgot password link on the login screen first to reset it via your email or phone number on file, then come back and follow the steps above.

Using a shared or public computer

If you are on a computer that is not yours, remember to log out fully afterward and clear the browser's saved password if you entered one, so the next person using that device cannot access anything.

What if you no longer have access to your email or phone number?

If you cannot log in and cannot reset your password either, standard account deletion is not possible. In that case, Instagram's own account recovery process (accessible from the login screen) is the only path back in before you can request deletion.
