Instagram Not Sending Verification Code? Here's How to Fix It

July 30, 2026 · 4 min de lectura

Ready to take action?

These open Instagram directly in a new tab. You'll need to be logged in.

Instagram sends a verification code by text message or email when you log in from a new device, reset your password, or try to delete your account. If that code never shows up, you can't get past the login screen at all. Here's what to check, in order.

Check your spam or junk folder first

If you asked for an email code, look in spam, junk, promotions, and any other filtered folder before doing anything else. Automated messages from Instagram sometimes get sorted out of your main inbox, especially if you haven't received mail from them before. Search your inbox for "instagram" rather than scrolling.

Make sure the phone number on file is correct

SMS codes fail silently when the number Instagram has is outdated, mistyped, or missing a country code. If you've changed phone numbers recently, the code is going to a phone you no longer have, not to you. There's no way to redirect it after the fact - you'll need to get into your account through another verified method (like email) to update the number.

Give it a few minutes, and don't spam resend

SMS delivery through carriers can lag a few minutes, particularly internationally. Wait at least five minutes before requesting a new code. Tapping "resend" repeatedly doesn't speed anything up - it usually makes things worse, because Instagram temporarily rate-limits accounts that request too many codes in a short window. If you've been hammering the resend button, stop and wait 30-60 minutes before trying again.

Check whether your carrier is blocking short codes

Automated texts come from short numeric "short codes" rather than a normal phone number, and some carriers or third-party call/text-blocking apps filter these by default. If you never receive verification texts from any service, not just Instagram, contact your carrier and ask them to unblock short code messages on your line.

Switch between SMS and email

If Instagram gives you a choice of verification method, try the other one. Someone who isn't getting a text might have better luck with email, and vice versa. Look for a "try another way" or similar link on the code entry screen.

If nothing works

This site is an independent guide - we have no way to send, resend, or intercept a verification code for you, and no way to access your account. If you've waited out any rate limit, confirmed your contact details, and checked both SMS and email with no luck, use Instagram's own "Need more help?" or account recovery flow from the login screen, which can verify your identity through other means. Once you're back in, see why you can't delete your account or how to recover an Instagram account for related issues.
